Marie Adel O’Connor was born on September 23, 1919, in San Antonio, Texas to Richard J. Raimondo and Angelina Mezzetti Raimondo. She passed away peacefully at her home on August 4, 2025, with her children at her side.
Marie attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and graduated from Incarnate Word High School before attending business school. She worked at Randolph Air Force Base and helped out at the family grocery store as a young adult.
On July 4, 1951, Marie married John I. O’Connor and began an adventure with him in Navy life. They were stationed at naval bases in San Diego, California and Norfolk, Virginia before returning to Texas. They settled in Bulverde where they raised their four children and Marie loved life on the farm in spite of having been raised a city girl.
Marie was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great grandmother who gave generously of her time and talents as a room mother at school, 4H leader and religious education teacher. She was a skilled seamstress, sewing many of her children’s clothes and costumes, and a wonderful cook and baker as well. There was no activity her children were involved in that she did not make time to support.
At her church, St. Joseph’s at Honey Creek, Marie was an active member, and a leader in Catholic Daughters, the Altar Society, Care and Grief Committee and Crafts Group, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She worked tirelessly at every church festival, running or helping out in either the cake stand or craft booth and enjoyed visiting with her friends as they worked.
Marie continued an active life into her nineties, even finding time for a twice-weekly aerobics class. Above all else, Marie was devoted to her family and her faith. She was the most loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Jon Kevin O’Connor (Linda) and Christopher Michael O’Connor and her daughters, Kathleen Marie Kyrish (Michael) and Karen Ann O’Connor (Roy Laubach); grandchildren, Jillian Rountree (Steve), Kelly Lugo (Michael), Matthew Kyrish (Amelia), Angela Kyrish, and Kristin Beautz (Scott); and great grandchildren, William, Audrey and James Rountree.
A Rosary will begin at 9:30 AM on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church – Honey Creek, located at 25781 State Highway 46 W, Spring Branch, Texas 78070. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. A private interment will be held at a later time at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
