

Marilee Winerich Fry-Covens went to be with the Lord at the age of 79 in San Antonio, Texas on April, 23, 2009. She was born on April 14, 1930, the daughter of William Holmes Winerich and Lucile Summers Winerich. Marilee made her profession of faith in Christ at an early age in First Baptist Church in San Antonio. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, where she was a member of the Girls' Cadet Corps and Martha Jefferson Randolph Society. Marilee attended Sullins College in Bristol, VA, where she was president of the Spanish Club and secretary of the senior class. She was "King" in the annual Mardi Gras at Sullins. Marilee received her degree from SMU where she was a member of the Tri Delta Sorority. She was a very talented pianist and played with the San Antonio Quartet Symphony. Marilee stayed active in the Jr. League, volunteering in Texas Children's Hospital, Leader of Young Married SS Class, puppetry, singing, playing the piano, while raising her three children in Houston. She sang in numerous choirs for 75 years with the Joy Singers and Prayer Ministry of AHUMC while in San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband, John Henry Fry, Jr., graduate of UT, President of Delta Tau Delta, President of Friars, President of UT Student Association and a member of the Silver Spurs and a Deacon of First Presbyterian Church in Houston; her parents, William and Lucile Winerich; two nephews, William Winerich Pipes (Billy) and Robert Summers Pipes (Bobby); and brother-in-law, Dr. William F. Pipes. What a grand reunion "Mimi" is having in Heaven! Marilee is survived by her beloved children: daughter, Melissa Fry Ford and husband, Lex of Houston, Meredith Fry Walker and husband, Chris of Diboll; son, John Barrett Fry of Katy; three grandchildren, Eric Blair and Adelaide Blair Gibson and Amanda Millis; sister, Lucile Winerich Pipes of San Antonio, and her children David Pipes and wife, Ruth of Odell, NE, and Luci Pipes Bell and husband, Seth of San Antonio; grandnephew, Billy Pipes ; grandniece, Lucile Bell; numerous cousins, step-children, and step-grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge and offer their sincerest appreciation to Tita and Milton Kramer, Brad and Martha Pigeon, Clifford Douglas, and her eldest daughter who deeply and lovingly cared for Marilee in her home, Melissa Holmes Fry Ford.
