

Marilyn Traylor, a beloved educator, volunteer, and community member, passed away on September 17, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on March 23, 1925, in Spring Arbor, Michigan to Esther and Harold Green. She leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and love for her family, friends, and countless others whose lives she touched.
While attending Greenville College in Illinois, Marilyn met the love of her life, Dr. Elwood Brent Traylor, and they married on August 27, 1947. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, lasting until his passing in 1999. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, faith, and service to others.
A longtime public school teacher, Marilyn earned her master’s degree in education and devoted her career to inspiring young minds. Her passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, as she played a vital role in the youth ministries at Travis Park United Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated member. Marilyn was also heavily involved in the church’s homeless outreach, constantly giving of herself to help others.
Her love for animals was evident in her role as the oldest docent at the San Antonio Zoo. Marilyn found joy in educating visitors and helping connect people to the wonders of the natural world. She was equally passionate about healthcare, spending years as a Blue Bird volunteer at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
Marilyn’s hands were always busy crafting beautiful quilts, which she lovingly donated to charities and gave to family members. Her generosity extended further through her involvement with Meals on Wheels, delivering warm meals and companionship to those unable to leave their homes.
She was a proud member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and found immense fulfillment in the friendships and service opportunities that came with it. Marilyn also had a lifelong love of music, which she carried with her from her days in an a cappella group during college. Her singing brought light and joy to many throughout her life.
Her family, friends, and the countless people she served will always remember her for her selflessness, warmth, and unwavering dedication to making the world a better place.
She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Doris, Donovan, and Lewis; and her husband, Dr. Elwood Brent Traylor. Marilyn is survived by her children, Robin Lynn Corbin (Andrew), Jill Blythe Traylor, Lauren Jane Traylor-Price, Elwood Brent Traylor, Jr. (Lourdes); grandchildren, Elijah Corbin, Tyler Corbin, Logan Corbin, Caitlin Corbin, Jacob D. Price, Joshue T. Price, and Abigail Traylor; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Ava, Ivy, and Tucker; siblings, Janice McCormick, Joyce Knowles, and Roger Green.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
