The family eventually settled in El Paso, Texas, where Marina graduated from Eastwood High School. She attended El Paso Community College, pursuing a degree in Interior Design, and eventually changed her major to Engineering at the University of Texas El Paso. She transferred to Texas A&M University, where she met her devoted husband, Michael Smith. She graduated from A&M with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, one of few women to complete the program.
Michael and Marina were married on December 7th, 1991. They both joined the Engineering teams at Southwest Research Institute, where she worked until venturing out on her own as a consultant for PRCI. Marina was an outstanding engineer, one of the best in her field. Her work included analysis and improvement of the Alaskan pipeline, and many other oil and gas infrastructure projects. Many of her assignments required extensive travel and hands-on assessment. Most recently, Marina was employed by CC Technologies in Ohio.
On August 27, 1999, their long-awaited and cherished daughter, Jenna Margaret was born. The little family was now complete, enjoying the lovely home that Michael and Marina had created together. Marina continued her education while working full-time and raising their daughter, receiving her Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas in 2002.
Marina was a gifted pianist, and unmatched intellect, a brilliant engineer, a gourmet cook, and a stylishly beautiful woman. But she will be mostly remembered for her kind heart. The world has lost a very special person, and her family, friends and colleagues will miss her terribly.
