Mario, you were a special man , a gentleman, a Honorable Warrior. You went thru so much and still had a smile and beautiful compliments. You always said the kindest words to my mom , she loved you and couldn't say enough about my daughter Lisa, what she did with her life. Going to college and becoming a nurse. Matthew is a wonderful young man , we will always be here for him and Lisa. You served your country and couldn't have taken care of your family any better . We are going to miss you Mario, you will always be with us. Live in peace with our Lord. God Bless You🙏

Whenever I think of Mario, I think of his exuberance especially when it came to thanking God for all things! Even the last time I saw him, a couple years ago, I knew that he was in a lot of pain but that exuberance still showed through. Nothing kept his spirit down. I'm sure he had dark moments but he always made others feel joyful around him. He will be missed but I can only imagine the glory he is in at this moment

Mario, you were a true warrior. You fought so hard and for so long. You are at peace now; no more pain. One day we will all be together and you know what the meal will be, my famous spaghetti and meatballs that you loved so much. Rest in peace now and forever.

It was a beautiful sunny day and perfect for a VIA Mural Tour of the Westside to visit the neighborhood our parents grew up in. This was the last photo I took with my brother in our beloved San Antonio. He has been reunited with my mom and dad in Heaven. I know they welcomed him with open arms and they’re probably eating menudo and tamales and singing “De Colores”! You fought valiantly and are now at peace brother✨

One of the greatest times with my brother Mario was the summer of 86 when we went to a Christian Fellowship workshop in Washington D.C. He met me at Texas A&M and we drove in his new Suzuki Jeep in a convoy of 6-7 cars. We arrived in College Park, MD and were roommates in a vacant frat house on University of Maryland campus. We had to find jobs, he found work as a electrician and I became a hot tar roofer. During the week we had various teachings and training from local pastors at night on campus. We always had music fellowship, worship and prayer time with our team of colleges in the region. On Saturdays, we would have numerous outings to places in the area, like capital area, Ocean City, Baltimore boardwalk and use the time as reach out to share the gospel with others. It was a special summer bonding together. On our drive back to Texas, Mario taught me how to drive his stick shift. I grinded those gears and almost rolled back down a hill. I would wake him up at night in fear when I would miss a gear. It was so funny and a very special time in our lives.

We almost took a 2nd mission trip together two summers later to Venezuela but I had to pull out at last minute and Mario still went. I had already bought my ticket to Miami so when Mario returned from Venezuela, I went to Miami and stayed there with a local church family and never left. Mario drove up and joined me about 6 months later and we were roommates once again in Miami. After about 2 years in Miami, our father came to join us and worked as shop foreman for my brother on his big hospital project. This was right around the same time that Mario met Lisa who worked at the same electrical company in their main office. I lent Mario my black Maxima so he and Lisa go to the annual Christmas party in style. And the rest is history, Lisa and Mario became inseparable and not to long after was their wedding followed by the greatest gift those two ever created Matthew Anthony Garza, a.k.a. "the peanut".
