Mario and I shared a friendship for over 20 yrs. He was my right hand man when it came to our gigs with the San Antonio Community Band. Also there when it came to decisions for the betterment of the band. Mario was very passionate about teaching and playing his music. We love you and will miss you my Brother. Carlos & Cindy

I had the honor of meeting Mario around 12yrs ago working as a nurse taking care of patients on Dialysis. Mario was one of those patients. I can vividly recall how we instantly clicked sharing many things we had in common. Over the years caring for him 3 days a week for 4hr treatmemts we became good friends. There were 4 things specifically we shared common interests in.... The Love of Music, The Love of Food, Our Dogs, and FIESTA SAN ANTONIO. Even years after I left to persue my career elsewhere we still kept in touch. I always waited for that call twice a year ... Fiesta and Jazz Alive, two of his favorite events. Mario's passion was Music and he loved to share his gift with others. Despite his illnesses he never let that hold him back from giving back to the Community. I am truely Blessed to have crossed paths with someone so loving, humble, funny and someone who loved life to the fullest. I will miss you very much Mario but I know we will cross paths again in a much better place.

Mario Prado has always been an example of what a Christian man should be like. He has as the Apostle Paul said of Onesimus "Oft times refreshed me" with a kind word, or just stopping by to say hello. During the start up days of Crownridge Church seventeen years ago, Mario stopped by almost monthly just to say hello and encourage me. Mary and I will always have fond memories of this fine man of God and his family - Dr. Steve Newton, Pastor Crownridge Church Ministries

We meet Mario years ago in our Musical Instrument Repair shop. Over the years we had the pleasure of Mario's visits for various things he needed and he would regale us with his adventures of his experiences in the music community. He always interested us with his involvement in community and educational projects. I always enjoyed seeing him in public making San Antonio a better place. He taught everyone by example and encouragement and our community will miss him. Rest In Peace our friend.

I had the honor of meeting Mario when I began working at Wesley in December 2012. I was introduced to one of the most passionate men I had ever met when it came to the teaching mariachi music. He was dedicated, caring and overall a wonderful teacher when it came to instructing the students. One of his first questions to the students was, “ Did you practice?” & “If you didn’t practice, how come?” They all knew better then to come unprepared for his class.
Mario welcomed me with open arms and quickly began teaching me the fundamentals of leading the mariachi group as part of my youth programs. I have such great memories of all the times I shared every Tuesday & Thursday for practice and the plenty of performances we all attended like a family.
Mario had a great heart for the people. He would always tell me in the many ways we could give back and in that we would collaborate in performing for senior living centers during the holidays, church festivals, for the parents, and so much more. Mario took such pride and happiness when he would see Los Mariachitos perform every year on the river barge during fiesta. It was during those performances I would see him with such a big smile and happiness for the growth and success of the students playing together.
When I told Mario I was moving to Alaska and would have to leave he was not very happy with me. But I assured him that he would be in great hands there in leading the group alongside someone new. The last performance I attended with him and the students was indeed our favorite “The Ford Mariachi Festival” on the riverwalk.
I have nothing but great memories shared with a wonderful friend I had made whom shared his great wisdom with me. I surely will never forget the impact he made on my life and for that I am forever grateful.
He will be greatly missed but I know he plays up 🎼above in the heavenly skies smiling down on us all.
