Marion Reese Naylor, age 90, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born here on March 30, 1923, the only child of Roy Cornelius & Eunice (Kennington) Reese. Marion is joyfully reuniting in heaven with her parents and her beloved husband of 68 years, Joe Myatt Naylor. Survivors include her loving daughters, Christine Naylor Shears & husband Craig and Sally Myatt Rein & husband Rick; grandchildren, Paige Hagenswold & husband Eric, Allison Herring, Sara Hovatter & husband Justin, Matthew Weir, and Jennie Galindo & husband Luke; great-grandchildren, Christian & Leyton Hagenswold and Austin, Charlie and Madeline Hovatter; and brother-in-law James K. Naylor, Jr. & wife Pina. Marion was a member of the 1940 graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, a Major sponsor of the R.O.T.C., and a member of the famous Thos. Jefferson Lassos. She was raised in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she loved to sing the old hymns in the church choir, and had an angelic voice. On October 3rd, 1943, she married her high school sweetheart and soul mate, Joe Myatt Naylor, and they left for Stewart Field, West Point N. Y., to begin traveling the world with his Air Force career. They were stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, and the Philippine Islands, as well as in a number of cities across the U.S. They retired to Sinton, Texas, in 1962, where together they managed the Sinton Municipal Airport, and then returned to their native San Antonio in 1971. There they ventured into the real estate brokerage business, co-owning ERA-SITES, where she was his "right hand", handling the practical matters to support their endeavors. Marion had a "green thumb" and a love of gardening from childhood, in keeping with her very nurturing disposition. She had a lifelong interest in nutrition, which she passed on to her daughters, and enjoyed cooking healthy meals for her family. Her husband was always her first priority, and she adored her two daughters whom she called "her jewels", as well as her five grandchildren and five greats. She loved beautiful flowers, working in the yard, pretty earrings and family reunions. She was the ideal role model for motherhood, character and integrity, and she will be sorely missed. As stated in Proverbs 31:28, "Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her." Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Laurel Heights Methodist Church with Rev. Jim McClain officiating. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. @ alz.org. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.
