Marisol Teresa Alarcon, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, goddaughter, niece, cousin, artist, musician, student, and friend, was born on May 10, 2006, in San Antonio, Texas. She passed away on August 9, 2026, in San Antonio at only 20 years old.
There are no words that can fully describe Marisol or the immeasurable space she leaves behind. She was beautiful, talented, intelligent, creative, and unapologetically herself. Photographs and videos could never do her justice. You had to know her, love her, experience her. Her personality, her talents, her humor, her creativity, and the way no one could tell her anything once her mind was made up—just like her grandpa—made Marisol unforgettable.
Marisol graduated from Luther Burbank High School and continued her education at San Antonio College, where she earned an associate degree in social work and graduated with academic honors. She had been admitted to the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she planned to continue her education in social work.
Marisol was an extraordinarily creative and intelligent spirit with an endless inner fire to learn, challenge herself, and create with her own hands. She was an avid reader and a talented musician who played the saxophone, violin, and keyboard. She drew, sketched, and painted. She carved her own stamps and created ceramic animals. She could sew clothing without using patterns and crocheted her own sweaters, socks, purses, and many other creations. If Marisol imagined something, she found a way to make it.
She loved music and Broadway musicals, and one of her mother’s most treasured memories is attending Hamilton with her in Chicago. She also loved Winnie the Pooh, the band My Chemical Romance, doing her nails, and finding beauty in nature through photography.
Marisol was so much more than what she accomplished or the things she created. She was a young woman whose feisty spirit touched those around her in ways that cannot be measured or forgotten. Twenty years was nowhere near enough time, but the love she gave, the things she made, the memories she created, and the pieces of herself she left with those who knew her will remain with us forever.
Marisol is survived by her parents, Maria Teresa Alarcon-Garza, Edward Garza, and Armando Gatica; her sisters, Anessa Julia Garza and Anastacia Gatica; her grandparents, Fermina Alarcon, Mario and Ernestina Garza, and Juanita Cantu; her godparents, Juan Alejandro Alarcon and Raquel Cantu; her aunts and uncles, Alma Julia and Tyler Westfield, Sabino Alarcon Jr., Stephanie and Joseph Sanchez, Ernest Garza, and Karen Garza; and her precious puppy, Neron, along with many cousins, relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved grandfather, Sabino Alarcon Sr., with whom she was inseparable in life. One of their unforgettable rituals was blasting System of a Down’s “Toxicity” every morning as he drove her to school.
Although Marisol no longer walks this earth, she lives on in spirit and in our hearts. We will cherish the mementos she made, the photographs and videos we have, the stories we will continue to tell, and, most of all, the memories of simply being with her.
Marisol will forever be loved, forever be missed, and forever remain in our hearts.
Until we meet again, in the words of My Chemical Romance: “We’ll carry on! We’ll carry on!… Your memory will carry on! You’ll carry on!”
