The youngest daughter of Colonel Edward and Mignon Rehmann, she met and married Lieutenant Emmette Y. Burton, Jr. at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois in 1938.
Their wonderful marriage of happiness with family and friends continued until May of 2002.
She will join her beloved Emmette on Wednesday at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
Together they enjoyed and endured a wonderful Army life traveling to assignments in Tokyo, Japan; Ft. Sill, Oklahoma; Washington D.C.; Ankara, Turkey; Ft. Sam Houston and many others.
Like many other wives, she waited with parents and babies during World War II for her husband to return. Emmette was in the European Theater for several years. They retired in San Antonio in 1972.
Pudge loved to play golf, entertain with her many friends at Sutton Place and visit the children and grandchildren, the love of her life.
She was also a volunteer at the Southwest Craft Center for many years. But, her primary focus and love was always her children and later the grandchildren.
They could often be found at the swimming pool at Sutton Place. Many of the grandchildren thought the pool was their "Granny's"!
Her son, Colonel R Emmette Y. Burton III, lives in San Antonio and is presently teaching at TMI.
Her devoted daughter, Judy, resides in Kerrville with her husband, Robert Harder.
All the grandchildren will be present in San Antonio this week.
Master Sergeant Emmette Y. Burton IV, his wife, Julie and daughter, Alexis, live in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; Chris Burton resides in San Antonio; Brian Clark, his wife, Michelle and son, Hunter, reside in San Antonio; and Molly Strande and her husband, Rob and son, Collin, live in Alexandria, Virginia.
In the past several years, Pudge has enjoyed being with her friends at USAA Towers.
She especially enjoyed the companionship of her brother, Colonel Edward R "Bub" Rehmann and her niece, Carroll Popps.
When asked by her children what they should tell others. she simply said, "Adios! Love you all."
