Marjorie, a wife, mother, artist, and teacher lived for 82 years and had a wonderful life. A native Texan, Marjorie was born in East Bernard, moved to Highlands near Houston, and in 1949 married her life-long partner, Edwin Phillips.
Marjorie and Ed raised two boys and two girls. While raising a family, Marjorie built a career with Ed in the US Air Force and moved her family all over the world. The hardest job in the Air Force is being an Air Force wife and she was the best. In Japan, Marjorie was a leader in the Officer's Wives Club and an advocate for children's programs. It was in Japan where Marjorie became interested in teaching aquatics and began her career as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor and teacher.
While stationed in Hawaii, Marjorie continued teaching aquatics, focusing on special needs children. This is where Marjorie excelled and made a world class impact advocating for special needs children.
In 1978, Marjorie and Ed moved to San Antonio and she became an aquatics instructor. Marjorie continued her work with the Red Cross and expanded her work with the Texas Special Olympics. Marjorie helped train athletes who qualified for and won medals at the Special Olympics World Games.
Marjorie lived a full life raising 4 children, who had 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. Marjorie will be missed by all whose lives she touched.
Casual Hawaiian attire is requested. Aloha Marjorie.
