Marjorie was a lover of books and the infinite possibilities of language. It is sweet to think that in death, even better language awaits. That will be Heaven for Miss Marge.
She was born Marjorie Ford LaPresto in Greenville, Mississippi on September 24, 1943. She passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
As a child in a military family, she traveled the world. And though she loved travel to Europe, in later years she was content to make short jaunts to Fredericksburg and Lost Maples.
She graduated High School in Rosedale, Mississippi. She went on to graduate Magna Cum Laude from Southwest Texas State University with a Master's Degree in English Literature and Creative Writing. She taught writing and English Literature at San Antonio College for over 40 years. She was an avid reader, a gifted writer, and a champion Scrabble player.
One of her great delights was preparing and sharing scrumptious meals. Oh the delicious tastes and wondrous smells that came from her kitchen. She and a small group of friends took turns hosting monthly dinner parties. Each would bring a favorite dish to the gathering. The food was exceptional, ("every good thing to eat" as our mother used to say), and the conversation lively. Lucky were those invited to join the feast.
She is survived by her son, Dean Wells, and two sisters, Amy LaPresto and Ruth LaBrayere, her husband David LaBrayere, her nephews Alec LaBrayere and Mark LaBrayere and his wife Sara and daughter Arden LaBrayere.
