

Mark Butler attended Robert E. Lee, High School in Houston, Texas, where he excelled in surfing, racing motocross, and making friends. Mark proudly attended Texas Tech University, earning a degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Mark began working for his dad in the oil industry, producing what he and his father referred to as “the cleanest mud you can find.” From there, Mark found his stride in commercial real estate going to work for Hines in Houston, Texas, in 1989. While Mark excelled in his commercial real estate career, his true passion for entrepreneurship began to outshine his knack for property management. Never afraid to put in the extra hour, Mark started a check-cashing business, a filter-changing operation, and, eventually, a commercial real estate company. Because of Mark’s genuine care for his clients as individuals and his vast knowledge of the industry, Butler Commercial Real Estate was a success. Mark considered it a great privilege to serve his clients through the years.
Mark moved to Alamo Heights in 1998, he quickly became a fixture within his community. Every opportunity he had to be involved in his sons’ activities, he took, with that quickly gravitating toward the Alamo Heights Little League. Mark shared a love for baseball with his sons. He served on the Board of Directors of the AHLL for over 14 years. While serving on the Board, Mark also served as a head coach for many Little League teams. He poured himself into coaching. His love for the kids & his desire for them to develop lifelong lessons from the game of baseball made him a beloved coach. It was always about the kids & they knew it. Mark was active in all three of his sons participation in the Boy Scouts of America. He served as the Troop Eagle Coordinator for Troop 809 for several years. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 25 years serving as a Sunday School teacher, a Confirmation mentor, & a member of the Lay Ministry committee.
Mark’s true joy was his family. Mark was married to the love of his life, Leah, for 32 years. He was an incredible father to Michael, Matthew & Luke. He was a loving son and wonderful brother. He was a provider, a protector, a chef, a coach, a friend, and a storyteller. Mark followed the Lord with all of his heart. He was a stranger to no one and a friend to all.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Laura Butler, and his father, Walter “Jim” Butler. Mark is survived by his wife, Leah G. Butler, his sons, Michael, Matthew, and Luke Butler, sister, Jennifer Mishriky, and mother, Shirley Guderian Butler.
