Mark Sandifer Norman

With great sadness, the family of Mr. Norman announces his passing. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, educator, and a man whose kindness and willingness to serve others touched many lives.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen Norman. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Norman and his wife, Nicki, and Scott Norman and his wife, Shani; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His family was an important part of his life, and the generations that follow him are a lasting part of his legacy.

A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the university. While a student at UT, he was a member of the ROTC and distinguished himself in marksmanship and sharpshooting, receiving multiple honors, including All-State recognition. His connection to the University of Texas remained with him throughout his life, and he was an avid Longhorn football fan.

He dedicated nearly 30 years of his professional life to St. Philip’s College in San Antonio, where he served as a guidance counselor. His career reflected something that came naturally to him—the desire to help others. Over the course of those years, he had the opportunity to guide and encourage countless students as they worked toward building better futures for themselves and their families.

Outside of his career, he had a lifelong love of gardening and could find great enjoyment in working with his hands and watching things grow. He was also fascinated by military history of all kinds, an interest that complemented his own ROTC experience and remained with him throughout his life. And, of course, few things brought him more enjoyment than cheering on his Texas Longhorns.

More than his accomplishments, education, or career, he will be remembered for the way he treated people. He was a kind and caring man with a genuine desire to help others. Whether through his decades of service to students, his devotion to his family, or the simple acts of kindness that defined his everyday life, he leaves behind a legacy of service, compassion, and love.

His family will miss him deeply and will forever be grateful for the years, memories, lessons, and love they shared with him. His influence will live on through his sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many people whose lives were made better because he was a part of them.
