Mark Anthony Rodriguez
January 1, 1962 – May 22, 2018
Mark Anthony Rodriguez, 56, passed away suddenly Tuesday May 22, 2018 at Methodist Stone Oak Hospital. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday May 29th at St. Anthony de Padua Church, 102 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, TX.
Mark was born on January 1, 1962 in San Antonio, the son of Adolph and Rose Rodriquez. He attended Catholic schools for many years. He graduated from Alamo Heights High School followed by an architecture degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Mark was active in sports – playing baseball, football, biking and golf. His time on the UTSA golf team enabled him to be an amazing golfer and he loved golfing and socializing at The Club at Sonterra.
Mark was very personable and thrived during his career in sales at Gunn Honda and Gunn Acura being top salesman and earning many awards.
Mark’s love of food initially sprouted by hanging around the family restaurant and later working at a large hotel restaurant. He had an incredible sense of taste – he knew what ingredients and spices to combine to make great food. He loved to cook amazing meals – smoking meat, seafood and all kinds of Mexican food. Actually, he could cook anything well!
Mark married Kathy Zywina in 2006, bringing a Canadian perspective and vocabulary into his life. His interest in food spawned the creation of Alamo Peppers and he was “The Chile King.” Mark and Kathy worked together to create Alamo Peppers; a business which features seasoning blends of Mark’s own creation as well as super-hot chile peppers.
Mark loved classic 70’s rock and folk-rock music. He attended many concerts especially Tribute tours of his favorite artists. A favorite past-time was taking photographs to commemorate events. Another great passion was his love of growing orchids and other plants. It was amazing to see all of his orchids in bloom at one time!
Mark is survived by his wife Kathy Zywina; mother, Rose Martinez (Richard); brother, Alex Rodriguez (Debbie); sister, Diana Galvan (Ernest); nieces and nephews: Andrew Rodriguez (Angela), Brent Satterfield (Kara), Sarah Schneider (Charles), David Galvan; grandnieces, Paisley, Mila & Amelia and grandnephews, Jaxon & Nico.
Mark’s father Adolph, his beloved dogs: Baby & Belle, cockatiel Rodney, and mother in-law Violet are there to greet him.
Memorial donations may be made to the pet charity of your choice.

Mary and I are so sorry for your loss. Mark welcomed us to the neighborhood in the most amazing way. He brought over spices and said I'm the "chili king" welcome to our neighborhood. He always made me laugh and sent the funniest text messages. We always bragged to our friends about how amazing his fireworks were and many came to see them. He will be missed dearly and we are right behind if you need anything.

Kathy, so sorry to hear you terrible loss. Though we didn't get to meet Mark as the distance just didn't make it possible we did enjoy lots of his products. Thinking of you, sending big English hugs. Jane, Roger and George xxx
