I only heard of Mark's passing last week. I grew up directly across the street from Brian & Mark on Kingshouse Court (MD). Mark was a few years older than me and I always looked up to him for his energy, focus and character. He was an incredible skateboarder in his day (on the East Coast Power Paw team), and I remember how he took his folk's old green 4 door Impala (early 70's) and got that thing to pull low 15's in the quarter mile. Little wonder he worked with engines for 30 years. God bless and rest in peace my friend. It's apparent you touched many lives in your journey, and your values (caring for family and others, and never settling for something half-baked) were never compromised.

What an honor to have spent the last 13 years working with Mark. He is the most visionary and dynamic leader I have ever been around. But also a most sincere close Christian friend that was so open and honest that it let me be the same with him. We didn't always agree, but I always respected that when he made a decision that he thought was best (and nearly always was), he headed down that path full bore, never looking back! He went so hard and with such energy, you couldn't help but want to jump on board! I learned so much from Mark, some about engineering, but even more about myself, and people, and how to be confident. Miss him like crazy. But we will meet again. Not sure exactly what kind of a dent Mark is making in heaven's music room, but I know he's living it out full bore! Will miss his making fun of my southern accent and my making fun of his self-congratulatory laugh. :-) Praying for peace and comfort for the family. May the peace that exceeds all comprehension comfort you in this time. Will try to focus on the good times that we had and carry on his legacy at SwRI and in how I deal with others.

We sure miss Mark. All the good times we had together as a family and the trips we made. He was very caring, considerate, and FUNNY.

One cannot remember Mark in earlier years without thinking of him taking a hold on life with the Monty Python and then he Star War films. Combining his moral compass with art and humor defined much of who he was. Companions and family who shared those happy moments will hold them close as cherished memories. And remember Mark as extravagant - extravagant in his lolve of his Jessica, his family, his spiritual life, his friends, his co-workers, and the work he chose. And remember Mark as he "lit up the room", any room, and made life brighter for the rest of us.

Although I had only known Mark for just over 2 years, the impact that he has had on me is massive. 
He was an extremely genuine, welcoming & fun loving person to be around. A natural leader, he inspired teamwork, confidence and most importantly friendship wherever he went. I had the pleasure of spending time with him both in and out of the office and he was always such great company, bringing people together with so many of his funny stories from his travels around the World. 
A passionate cyclist, his determination and commitment were so inspiring. 
Only in June, we spent a week riding bikes around the English Countryside in beautiful sunshine together. I will cherish those memories forever and I am so grateful that I had the chance to share such great times recently. 
Mark you have left behind a huge void. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. You touched the lives of everyone that knew you and we are are all better people for being able to call you a friend, Thank you.

When the phone rings late at night, one knows the news may not be good. When our daughter, Lori, called and told us of Mark's passing, we were stunned and in a state of shock. Lori had just connected with Lauren on FB and saw the post. There really are no words to express our feelings. Mark was an energetic, fun loving, highly talented engineer, musician, and a strong Christian. Our loss is heavens gain. We can see him brightening heaven by his very presence. Jessica, Lauren, Kristen,Sam and all other family members, we pray that The Lord will give you His perfect peace and comfort now and always.

I knew Mark was going be a great example of a man, even as a young boy. You see, Mark and his brother Brian, are my cousins. As tough as it is to feel the loss of a beloved family member, I can only pray that the other family and friends that he has left behind, will find comfort in their time of mourning and bond in their love for one another. Our Grandmother, Janet Hopkins wrote a note in a bible to me that I still seek guidance with, to this day... "Do not lose what you have gained, lean on the Lord." My heart goes out as the tears fall... We are leaning.

....and one more thing... Christ went to prepare a place for you, and there you are in His mansion...rockin' the house! : )

Mark was an exception person, a true friend and a talented colleague. It was a pleasure and an honor to have known and worked with him. In every interaction he brightened my day with his great sense of humor and upbeat, energetic personality. This is a tragic loss and he will be deeply missed by all. Mark was such a blast of life to a very stiff engineering office. It was a lot of fun to be his friend. He broke down barriers and gave permission to others to show some feeling. Having known Mark for the past 30 years, we've lost a tremendous friend and colleague. He'll be sorely missed. My deepest prayers go out to all who have been touched by Mark and are now saddened by the loss of Mark. May he forever rest in peace.

Mark was the class clown as well as its natural born leader, everyone's friend. He affected many lives for the better and though Earth will be a bit dimmer, Heaven will be a bit brighter (and louder) b/c of him.

Mark touched so many lives as a boss and leader, as a colleague, and as a friend. His legacy is his influence to his family, peers and friends that will live on through all of us. We will never forget everything you have done for us Mark.

Mark brought tremendous joy to all those around him. To say I will miss him is an understatement, he has left a void that can only be filled by the legacy as one of the greatest men I have known. We will carry the torch of excellence that he built here at SwRI as well as his memory of a great friend and mentor.
