With the love of his family surrounding him, Marlan Gaston Anderson, passed away on February 27, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 92. Marlan was a loving man whose warmth will be dearly missed.
Though born in the quaint small town of Pitkin, Louisiana on February 2, 1932, Marlan spent his childhood and youth in Houston, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Harvey Joe. They attended Baylor University, were married in 1953 and were blessed to have celebrated 70 years of marriage together last August with a grand party.
After graduating from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1954, Marlan was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. During his 25 years of military service, he served as a logistics-supply officer at Air Force Bases located in Molesworth, England; Waco, Texas; San Antonio, Texas; Frankfurt, Germany; Oahu, Hawaii; and Takhli, Thailand. While stationed in Waco, he attended night school at Baylor University and earned a Master of Business Administration Degree. Throughout his career, Marlan received honors, including several commendation medals, meritorious service medals and a bronze star medal. Marlan retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1979. He embarked on his civilian career as a shipping and supply manager at Datapoint/Interlogic Trace, dedicating 14 years before retiring in 1993.
Marlan enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing games, antique cars, traveling, and going on cruises. He was an avid reader who always had a book or two going. Being a true Baylor University Football fan, Marlan had season tickets for many years and rarely missed a game either in person or on television. But above all, his favorite pastime was spending time with his family, where he was very involved in supporting all his children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors and activities. Affectionately called “Grandaddy”, his grandkids and great grandkids loved hanging out with him and would do so on a regular basis.
Marlan’s family and friends remember him for his gentle spirit, kind heart, loyalty, intelligence, and sense of humor. May his memory live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Marlan and Harvey Joe are longtime members of University Methodist Church where Marlan served on many committees, ushered for 25 years, and was very involved with their Seeker’s Sunday School Class.
