Marsha Lynn Johnson

May 25, 1944 – October 29, 2023

Marsha L. Johnson (Corliss) of San Antonio, TX passed away peacefully in her sleep in Boerne, TX on October 29, 2023, at the age of 79. Marsha was born in Hebron, NE May 25, 1944 to Harold and Mae Corliss.

As the youngest of 4 children, Marsha enjoyed growing up in the country. She had an adventurous spirit from a young age. She loved following her older siblings around, running around in overalls, catching bugs & toads, and finding all sorts of fun in outdoor expeditions. Her favorite story to tell was how her mom had to be sure to check her overalls each night as she never knew what she might find in them.

Marsha married in 1965, becoming a proud military wife and served the Air Force as a civil servant for 27 years. She traveled the world, with overseas assignments including France, Belgium, Turkey, England, and Italy. Many sacrifices were made through all the deployments, raising the children, and relocating every couple of years. After retiring to San Antonio, TX, both Marsha and her husband Jerry enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels for several years where they met mom’s dear friend Jo. In addition to this volunteer work, Mom also sewed baby quilts and such for local hospitals. She was a civil servant to the end.

Marsha raised 3 children and had the good fortune of having 4 beautiful grandchildren that were her pride and joy. She always made the effort to spend time with each of them. At times, that meant having them there with her and Grandpa, but she also traveled the world over to see them as well. Holidays and get-togethers meant everything to Marsha. She loved all the planning for everyone's visits, but mostly loved just having her children and grandchildren around her.

Marsha’s favorite pastimes and hobbies included traveling to visit friends and family, cruising, and sewing and quilting. Each and every day Mom spent many hours in her quilting workshop making countless beautiful works of art. In addition to this pastime, she was an active member in two quilting guilds.

She is survived by her children Brian (Peggy) Johnson, Kelly (Bexar) Schenk, and son-in-law Lars Hubert. Grandchildren: Rory Johnson, Gunnar Hubert, Reese Hubert, and Bailey Schenk. She is also survived by her brothers: Harold (Judy) Corliss, and John (Donna) Corliss, and in-laws Richard ‘Butch’ Johnson, Mary & Tom Schepp, Donald & Jan Johnson, Sharon & Gary Boushley, Margaret & Dan Strehlow, Rose LeMay, and David Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Jerome "Jerry" E. Johnson - USAF CMSgt. (ret.), daughter Jill Hubert, sister Donna Lea Brumbaugh, parents Harold & Mae Corliss, father- and mother-in-law Edwin & Katherine Johnson and sister-in-law Henrietta Benson.

We would like our Mom and Grandma to be remembered for her endless love and devotion to her family.

The family would like to thank those at Cibolo Creek Rehabilitation for the compassionate loving care they gave Marsha these past few months.

Visitation and Funeral Service: Sunset NW Funeral Home, Friday, November 17, 2023. Visitation 10:30am to 11:30am, followed by a service at 11:30am. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00pm.
