

JoAnne James, 86, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Waycross, Georgia to Joseph Paxton Marr and Pearl (Letha) Gladys Suggs and moved to San Antonio at an early age following the untimely death of her father. She graduated from Burbank High School in 1952 and then married her husband Byrne James II DVM of Raymondville, Texas, on January 23, 1959. During her life JoAnne was primarily a homemaker but held other various jobs in retail, real estate, and administration. She had a long-time passion for bingo and was a fixture at the local bingo halls in and around Helotes, and also enjoyed her numerous pets, plants, antiques, shopping, and fast food restaurants. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Ethel Irene Stahl; brother Richard Paxton Marr; and husband, Byrne James II DVM. JoAnne is survived by her daughter, Dawn James; her son, Robert “Trey” B. James III (Rose); grandchildren, Robert Nanney (Brittany), Melaine Seelig (Evan), Michelle Meadows (Donell), Abigail Utterback, Byrne James IV and Megan James; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Camden, Cooper, Willa and Weston. In addition, she was blessed with many loving and caring friends, neighbors and extended family.
