Martha Cook Lawrence, age 99, of San Antonio, passed peacefully in her sleep on July 13, 2018. Born December 19, 1918 in Bennington Vt, she is predeceased by her parents, Edward Cook and Nellie Grimshaw Cook, her husband of 55 years, Maj. Louis E. Lawrence, her two sisters, Lillian Hallock and Helen Nelson, and two brothers, George Cook and Robert Cook. She is survived by her two children, David Lawrence and wife Angie of Pickwick, TN, and daughter Sherry Brewer and husband Joseph of San Antonio. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. After her husband completed his military career following active duty in WWII (North Africa and European Theaters) and Korea , they settled in San Antonio, to raise their two children. Martha loved her family and enjoyed hosting family functions at home where cooking and sharing family stories were important. Martha was an avid bridge player and a member of several bridge clubs until the time of her passing. She also enjoyed traveling, painting, theater, gardening, reading, golf, and the San Antonio Spurs. She was of member of St. David’s Episcopal Church and served on the Alter and Flower Guilds, and Meals on Wheels. A service celebrating her life is scheduled for Fri, Aug 10, at 11:30 AM at the Inn at Los Patios. Officiating is Mr. Russ Sherman of St. David’s Episcopal. Burial is Friday, August 10, at 2PM Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
