

Martha Georganne Neason Van Dyke was born on October 25, 1926, in Burlington, Iowa, and passed away on August 15, 2026, at her Fredericksburg area home. She was 99 years old. She graduated from High School in Mattoon, Illinois, in 1944. She joined the United States Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II, attended the Julia F. Burnham School of Nursing and the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois, and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. She worked as a Registered Nurse at the Burnham Hospital in Champaign, Illinois and worked as a Polio Nurse at St. Francis Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, until late 1952 when she married then 2nd Lt. Robert P. Van Dyke, USAFR in Mattoon, Illinois. They moved to Otis AFB, Massachusetts. She worked as a Registered Nurse at hospitals in Bourne, Massachusetts, in Iowa City, Iowa, and in Kansas City, Missouri. After several moves, she and Robert arrived in San Antonio where they began their family. She left the nursing profession to raise her three children. She made a wonderful home for her family and supported her children in all of their endeavors from dance to band to ROTC to drama to sports and academia. In 1988, she and Robert moved to their ranch near Fredericksburg, Texas. She enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching birds, watching the Hill Country wildlife, reading, watching old westerns and movies, walking, and visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a devoted Cubs baseball fan and was thrilled when they won the 2016 World Series.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2020, and is survived by her daughter, Lori L. Van Dyke of San Antonio, Texas, her son, Thomas P. Van Dyke (Wan-Pin), of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, her daughter Melissa A. Fisher (Howard), of Houston, Texas, her grandchildren Tiana L. Van Dyke and Cole D. Phillips (Erin) and two great granddaughters. She is survived by one sister, one brother, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
There will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Center of Fredericksburg, Texas, or your charity of choice.
