

S.A.P.D. Officer Marty Rocha, age 54, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Marty joined S.A.P.D on April 2, 1979 and served 32 years with dedication and pride. She was assigned to Special Operations as a Hostage Negotiator. Marty was proud of the many assignments she had with the police department, including her time with the Police Athletic League and was one of the first female officers assigned to the Traffic Unit. She was the most proud of obtaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M Kingsville/San Antonio in May 2011. Marty was an avid softball player and a member of the board of directors of the Texas Police Athletic Federation and was recently named to the Texas Police Athletic Hall of Fame. During her time off, Marty worked security for Missions Baseball and area estate sales. She was active on various committees within the police department. Marty enjoyed being a Mary Kay Consultant, and in usual Marty form, excelled with this and received awards and benefits. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Erlinda Rocha, Sr.; sister, Erlinda "Nina" Charles. Survivors: sister, Teresa Terry B. Rocha; half brother, Roberto Rocha; nieces and nephews, Teri Renée Rocha, Tom Rocha, Scott Ramey, and Wayne Richard Rocha and wife, Liz; great-niece, Lillian Bea; great-nephew, Christian Alexander; her beloved "baby" Chico; numerous cousins and her many brothers and sisters of the S.A. Police Department.
