Mary was a member of Laurel Heights United Methodist Church of San Antonio, TX. She cherished any opportunity to be with family and friends. She was a super whiz at scrabble, loved dominoes, jigsaw puzzles and Wheel of Fortune. She held various jobs throughout the years. She was an amazing cook; her specialties were chicken and dumplings & giblet gravy. Mary was a great seamstress, and also enjoyed crocheting. She was a very talented dancer and especially loved square dancing. She loved gardening and listening to the chimes hanging on her deck at her home on Oblate, where she lived for 44 years. She enjoyed an early morning cup of tea, and weekly bible study at Laurel Heights, where she formed many meaningful friendships. She was like a second mom for brothers Ralph and Richard Jordan, during their early childhood. She was awarded “Most Helpful” at The William Senior Living, where she enjoyed her final years and also loved looking at the hummingbirds feeding outside her window. Her favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James H. Alphin; her parents, Ralph Jordan, Sr. and Marie Brown; and her stepfather, Homer Brown and her brother, Ralph Jordan, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Baer and her husband, CDR Dennis Baer, (USN Ret.) and Jeannie Brinkman and her husband, Fritz Brinkman; her grandchildren, Audrey Buskirk and Kevin and Justin Baer; her great grandchildren, Riley and E.J. Buskirk and Chance and Lorelai Baer; her brother, Richard Jordan; her sister-in-law, Sandra Jordan; her nieces, Cheryl Wiltz, her husband Dwayne, Jana Temple, and Judy Glenn; her nephew, Steven Jordan, his wife, Maria; several great nieces and great nephews; her special friends, Sandra Wilkins, Linda Hunter, Kitty Grantham; and her neighbors, Anibal Camargo and Janice Kolodzie.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 P.M. followed by the Service at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Richard Jordan, Dennis Baer, Fritz Brinkman, Audrey Buskirk, Kip Wieberdink and Martin Pesqueira.
