
Mary Purser Beeman, age 59, passed on to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, September 10, 2002. Her struggle with cancer is finally over. Born Dec. 5, 1942 in Hampton, VA, she graduated from Hampton High School in 1960 and attended Louisiana Tech University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Speech. After marriage and the birth of her son, she went back to school and earned a Jurisprudence Doctorate from The Bates College of Law at the University of Houston in 1975. Mary passed the state bar exam and practiced Texas law for eight years. While living in Salt Lake City, she began work on a PhD in Political Science. Mary completed her second doctorate at the University of Texas in Austin in 1992. She taught college courses in politics, government and law at the University of the Incarnate Word from '90 through '98. Mary was a loving and devoted wife and mother and friend. Always cheerful and upbeat no matter what the situation. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Mary is survived by her husband, Jim Beeman; son, Stephen Beeman; sister, Margaret Purser; father, Paul E. Purser; and her two beautiful granddaughters, Maxine and Samantha.
