Mary Z. Bernal was born August 8, 1934 in Campbellton, Texas to the late Domitilia Rosales Zepeda and Jesus Zepeda. She passed away on August 13, 2022, surrounded by family. Mary married at a young age and had ten children. She worked for Tobin Survey for several years and part-time with Rosemary's Catering to support her children. She got a job with the City of San Antonio and would occasionally still work with Rosemary's Catering. She retired from the City of San Antonio after 20 years. She enjoyed working at the Convention Center especially when the Spurs played. She still had Manu Ginobli's and David Robinson’s posters on her wall. She was also a Dallas Cowboy fan. She liked to buy football pots, especially for the Thanksgiving Day game and Super Bowl. She also enjoyed playing bingo and slot machines. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her two sons, Frank and Jerry Bernal, three sisters Stella Contreras, Caroline Garza, and Connie Gibson, one brother, Richard Zepeda, and one grandson George Wilkins. Mary leaves behind eight children Robert (Bobby) Bernal, Nora Sierra, Betty Gomez (Ruben), Grace Rodriguez, Sylvia Bernal (Victor), Diana Salazar, Albert Bernal (Vilma), Patricia Bernal (George); 23 grandchildren Larissa Bernal, Angella Sierra, Ray Anthony Sierra (Liz), James Gomez (Angela), Lisa Marie Ramirez (Juan), April Bernal, Ray Roland Bernal, Jacob Cortez, Stacy Lee Mwiseneza (Amhir), Monica Adames, Christopher Michael Bernal, Phillip Matthew Salazar (Monica), Rudy Lerma (Michelle), Vincent Bernal (Crystal) Stassney Coy (Ryan), Stephany Gonzales (David), Jason Bernal (Tarilyn), Sergio Bernal (Crystal), Brandy Alvarado (Miguel), Belén Delgado (Carlos), Bianca Bernal (Calvin), Ashley Villarreal (Joe), Genevieve Villarreal and 48 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, two brothers Roger and Raymond Zepeda.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Rd. with a Prayer service at 7:00 pm. A 9:00 am Chapel Service will be held on Thursday, August 25 at Trevino Funeral Home. Interment to follow in San Jose Burial Park.
