Our beloved Mother was born August 20, 1926 in Trenton, NJ to her parents Michael and Emma Miloszar. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mike, and her sisters Julia and Emma (her twin). She passed away March 26, 2018.
She is survived by her three sons Mark (Tina), David (Annette), and Ron (Carol), grandchildren Michael (Heather), Paul (Megen), Lisa Benjamin (Jermaine), Katie, and David, as well as great-grandchildren Owen, Blake, Cecilia, Adeline, Maristella, and William, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by lifelong friends and neighbors whose lives she touched, and who touched her, with kindness and love.
Mother grew up during The Great Depression and came of age during World War II. Despite the difficulties of the times and the sacrifices made during those years (especially by her father, a policeman, and her brother, a soldier), she always managed to be cheerful and make the most out of whatever life brought. She was a joyful person, often getting into good-natured mischief with her siblings, and always able to make those around her happy and their lives just a little better.
As a young adult she took great pride in working at the John A. Roebling Company in Trenton (the company that manufactured the steel cables for the Brooklyn Bridge), played on the company softball and bowling teams, and thoroughly enjoyed life as a busy young woman (although never straying too far from her parents' watchful eyes). As a young wife and mother her natural traits led her to be the warmest, most loving, most giving mother anyone could ever wish to have. And despite the usual trials and tribulations of youthful marriage and motherhood, she always maintained her good natured, fun-loving spirit, and devotion to her family. One of the things that brought her the most joy were the day trips to the New Jersey shore and Seaside Heights boardwalk, where her sons provided her with endless amusement as they were mercilessly tossed about by waves or tumbled in the infamous "Barrel of Fun" amusement ride -- often with the children of family friends. Her sense of humor was legend. Active in her children's school and library, she and a dear friend assisted in initiating the school's physical education program, and in so doing introduced a whole new generation to the "joys" of dancing the Alley Cat.
Later in life she found new purpose in doting over her grandchildren. She entertained them almost as much as they entertained her if for no other reason than that her spirit was as young as theirs. And despite the onset of The Long Goodbye of Alzheimer's, she did her best to keep her connection with her family alive as long as she could. For 15 years she battled the disease, 13 of which were in assisted living and memory care facilities. The early years were hard on her and her family, but we were blessed with the return of our sweetheart Mother for the last several years of her life. For that we will always be grateful to God.
Mother will be remembered by all who knew her for her inner strength, her love for life and those close to her, and the pride she took in her family. She will be remembered by her daughters-in-law as a welcoming, accepting, and loving second mother. She always made the most of any situation, always with a playful heart, good humor, and an unshakable faith in God. She was unashamedly patriotic, and loved her country with a passion few have. She was one of those rare people who accepted herself for who she was, and never felt the need to try to impress others or pretend to be anything other than "Mary". She was an authentically good person, comfortable with herself and her relationship with God, and set the example of selfless love for others to follow. Nonetheless, she had little patience for "Clods" or "Klunkers".
The family wants to offer our sincere gratitude to the memory care staff of Brookdale Hollywood Park, where she received loving care for the last years of her life. We will be forever grateful for all they did as dutiful caretakers and willing companions for our mother.
She will be missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing that she is now fully restored in mind, body and spirit and basks in the light of Christ. We are so happy that she is now free of the torments of life, and lives in peace and joy with her parents and siblings for all eternity.
A Rosary followed immediately by her funeral Mass will begin at 1:00 pm, April 14, 2018 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (600 Oblate Drive; San Antonio, TX 78216). A reception will follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Charitas Fund at San Francesco di Paola Church, 205 Piazza Italia, San Antonio, TX 78207.
