Mary Lavinia Hogg Bunn, "Gram," age 87, completed her earthly journey on March 30, 2015, to join her best friend and husband, Charles E. Bunn, who passed away in 2010. She was born on October 27, 1927, in Orange, Texas, the only child of the late Leopold John and Frances Liston Hogg, the first grandchild of the late George and Mary L. Hogg and John and Ada Liston, the first great-grandchild of Leopold John and Mary L. Block and John and Barbara Hogg. She is survived by four children: Lynn York (J.B.), Lea Coffee (Mark), Chuck Bunn (Ann), all of San Antonio, and Von Bunn of Austin; seven grandchildren (Gram's treasures): Aaron, Shane, and Nicole York, Cristin and Clint Coffee, Kayla Coffee-Prose (Fester), and Corbey Bunn (Jon); five great-grandchildren: Erick, Marcus, Aly, AJ, and Samantha. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved and adored.
Mary graduated from Orange Stark High School and Stephen F. Austin State Teachers College, where she was a member of numerous organizations including the Pine Burrs / Chi Omega Sorority. On April 3, 1948, she married the love of her life, Charles E. Bunn. Mary taught school in Orange for two years before she and Charles moved to Victoria, Texas. In Victoria she taught for 28 years in grades two through twelve. Mary was active in numerous professional organizations, including having served as President of the Victoria Classroom Teachers Association, the Victoria Retired Teachers Association, and District III Retired Teachers Association. Additionally, she served as the first female president of the VISD school board.
In 1952, Mary and Charles became charter members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Victoria. Prior to her death, she was the final remaining charter member. After moving to San Antonio in 1991, they joined First Presbyterian Church and attended and enjoyed many Bible Study Classes.
Family, both present and past, was so very important to Mary.
Family gatherings and celebrations were always a cherished time. She will be deeply missed by her family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3604 N Ben Jordan Street, Victoria, Texas.
A private graveside service will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
