Mary Lou Carpentier was called to be with the Lord on November 16, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Mary Lou was born in Troy, New York on September 28, 1938 to Louis and Anna Schatz. Sixty-five years ago, at Troy High School, James, the high school basketball star, and Mary Lou, the salutatorian and cheerleader, fell in love. The two got married at 18 and 17 respectively, and spent the next 55 years growing together, exploring together, and loving each other. Mary Lou was preceded in death by James in 2012. Today, they are together again planning their next adventure.
Mary Lou was a military wife and mother of six children. James’ Air Force career took him, Mary Lou, and their children to various states and countries. Mary Lou loved to travel and was curious about other cultures, which made her perfectly suited for life as a military spouse. No matter where her family was stationed, Mary Lou set-up home and immersed herself in the culture. She especially loved living in Germany, where her parents were from, and Spain where she appreciated the lifestyle. Spanning at least 30 different places, including during James’ unaccompanied military tours, Mary Lou raised her six children: James Carpentier, Deborah (James), Pamela, Lisa (Charlie), Mary Lou, and Christopher (Monique). Ultimately, military service took the family to Texas, Laredo first then San Antonio which became home. Upon retirement Mary Lou and James secured their dream quaint ranch-home in Bandera, TX.
In addition to being survived by her six children, she adored her 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren admired Mary Lou for her wisdom, brilliance, integrity, and kindness.
The Graveside Service will be Monday, December 7, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Ft. Sam National Cemetery where Mary Lou will be laid to rest with her loving husband.
