

Mary was born on October 17, 1922, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, the daughter of Florence Grabiel Ellis and Earl Ellis.
She attended Mount Saint Mary's Academy in Little Rock and Arkansas Tech University in Russellville.
She was a 1944 graduate of Oklahoma State University where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Her great aunt, Jobelle Holcombe was a founder of the National Chi Omega Sorority.
After college, Mary joined the U.S. Army where she served in the Pacific Theater during WWII. Later, she transferred into the U.S. Air Force and, as a Physical Therapist she served in military hospitals across Europe and the United States.
Mary was very proud to have been a part of the military service. When she retired from the military, she chose to settle in San Antonio among many friends.
Mary had an interest in history and was a member of the Daughters of the American Colonists and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She enjoyed and supported the Arts in San Antonio. She had a passion for travel and toured throughout the world.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Dr. Ruth Elizabeth Ellis, and her aunt, Ruth Grabiel, for whom she provided dedicated care for many years.
She is survived by loving and devoted family members in Arkansas and Mississippi.
Mary has established two scholarships funds at the University of Arkansas: The Ruth Elizabeth Ellis, M.D. Scholarship Fund honors her sister and the Florence Grabiel Ellis, R.N. Scholarship Fund which honors her mother. These funds are to be used for needy and deserving medical and nursing students. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials to Mary be made to the University of Arkansas Foundation, Inc. and mailed to the Office of Planned Giving, 1002 West Maple, Fayetteville, Arkansas 72701
