Mary Zuniga Flores, 84, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on November 9, 1940, in Corpus Christi, Texas, she was the daughter of Damacio Zuniga and Guadalupe Herrera Zuniga.
Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Ricardo Flores; son, Ricky Flores Jr. (Catherine); daughter, Veronica Flores (William); grandchildren, Joseph Morin, James Morin, Cecily Flores, and Vyctoria Morin(Thomas Briones) and Mariah Watts mother of great-granddaughters; great-granddaughters, Aria Morin and Khloe Morin; sister-in-law, Diana Flores; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Sandy Flores, and David and Viola Flores; as well as numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Family was the heart of Mary’s world, and she loved hers deeply. Her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Memo," brought her great joy, and her face would light up every time they came to visit.
Mary met her husband, Ricardo, in May 1955 when he was delivering her mother’s newspaper. They married in September 1961. As a military wife, Mary moved many times across the United States and even lived in Munich, Germany, where their daughter Veronica was born. Their son, Rick, was born in the BAMC Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and Mary embraced every new location they called home, always ensuring that the family stayed together.
After Ricardo retired from the Army, Mary initially struggled to adjust to civilian life. But everything changed when her grandchildren were born. She cherished caring for them while her children worked, and it quickly became one of the greatest joys of her life, helping her feel young at heart.
Mary’s love of cooking was another defining part of her life. She was a master of Mexican cuisine, and her dishes were loved by all who tasted them. Hosting family gatherings during the holidays was one of her favorite things, and she would always invite others to learn her recipes by watching her cook in the kitchen.
In 2016, Mary was diagnosed with short-term memory loss. Throughout her illness, her devoted husband Ricardo was by her side, providing care and support. The family made a point to visit frequently, and Mary treasured the time spent with them. Thankfully, she never forgot the faces of those she loved, always ending conversations with a heartfelt, "I love you!"
Mary, you will always be remembered and loved. "Memo," we will forever hold you in our hearts.
