Ginger was a very kind person and liked everyone. She loved raising her daughters and visiting with her grandkids and friends. She was passionate about the natural sciences, an avid reader, a member of several clubs, and a talented artist. She and her husband were soul mates, married for 45 years.
Ginger and Bill met in college, where they were both studying geology at West Texas State. They often hiked together, collecting and photographing wildflowers side by side in the mountains. They even accidentally collected poison oak during one of these adventures--a mistake they only made once!
Ginger and Bill's love for the outdoors drew a close circle of friends around them who joined them in their many hobbies, including birding, astronomy, and camping.
Ginger's love for arts and crafts inspired all who knew her. For years, Ginger was active in the weaving guild in Amarillo, her hometown, and served for many years as a Corpus Christi Ballet costume seamstress. She constantly sought out new crafts to learn and mastered them, including silk ribbon embroidery, Pysanky egg design, tatting, painting, and quilting.
She is survived by her husband William Holliday, daughter Catherine Peabody, son-in-law Patrick Peabody, their children Timmy, Lexa, Will, and Hugh Peabody, as well as daughter Sara Rosenberg and son-in-law Kenny Rosenberg. She is also survived by nephew Tracy Essary and his wife Lisa Essary. She is preceded in death by her mother Zollie Maxine Essary, her father Benjamin Franklin Essary, and her brothers Benjamin and Tommy Essary.
A funeral service will be held at Mission Park Cemetery, 1700 S.E. Military Drive, San Antonio, Texas on Tuesday, 10/17 at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heart of Texas Lab Rescue, Breakthrough Central Texas, or DonorsChoose.
