Mrs. Kempf received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Longwood College in Farmville, Virginia, and a Master of Arts in Distributive Education from the Richmond Professional Institute, then a division of College of William and Mary.
She worked as a department store buyer, taught at Dickson Junior High School in Oklahoma and volunteered with the League of Women Voters and the Camp Fire Girls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles W. Richards and Susan Morris Richards; her sister, Cholena Brooks and her husband of 56 years, James H. Kempf.
Mrs. Kempf is survived by her daughters, Nancy Susan and Judith Kay, wife of Michael Elrod of San Antonio and grandson, Charles Michael Elrod.
