It is with great sadness that the family of Mary J. Lawler announces her passing after a long illness, on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Mary was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to Santiago Lawler and Lucia Furlong Lawler. She attended boarding school at Michael Ham where she looked forward to the weekends when she could escape to the joyful company of her Horan and Stanfield Cousins. Mary was proud to call San Antonio home, a city she was passionate about. She had a long 32 year career with Mexicana Airlines and then reinvented herself as an interpreter and docent. Her three children enjoyed traveling with her and they all shared many happy memories of summers spent exploring Mexico. She believed that everyone should travel because it broadened the mind and expanded one's horizons. Her adventures took her to Europe and locations as diverse as China, India and safari in Africa. An animal lover extraordinaire, she loved the Spanish language, literature, art and relaxed watching telenovelas. As a gifted gardener, her backyard was a sight to behold filled with bright colors and many birds. A wonderful cook, Mary enjoyed food and fine wine. Her empanadas and Thanksgiving sausage stuffing will be greatly missed by all. Rich in friends, her greatest treasure were her children Robert, Alexandra and Lisa. She passed away gently, attended by her three loving children and in friendship with God. Preceded in death by her parents and beloved cousins. Mary is survived by her daughter Alexandra Wetterman and husband Charles; daughter Lisa Winget, husband Charlie and beloved grandson Tanner; son, Robert Thrailkill, wife Mariana and beloved grandchildren; Sean, Christián, Marianne, Andrés, Isabella and Natalia and her beloved cousins. The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to her caregivers and dearest friends who supported her with affection, friendships, thoughtful gestures and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be given to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. The rosary for the repose of Mary's soul will be at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2015 at Our Lady of Grace. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be presided by Father Martin Leopold at 9:30 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2015 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 223 E. Summit Ave. San Antonio, TX 78212.
