With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Helen Lovett, affectionately known as "Helen" or "Mimi," on August 2, 2023. Surrounded by the love of her family, she transitioned into eternal rest at the age of 99, leaving behind a legacy of cherished memories and a profound impact on all who knew her.
Helen was born on April 27, 1924, in Temple, TX, to Charles and Helen Heard Rosener. She spent her formative years in Temple, attending public schools and going on to complete a business program.
On August 21, 1943, Helen exchanged vows with Claude Lovett in Abilene, Texas, beginning a beautiful love story that would span 68 years. The military life took them to various corners of the country, including Cathedral City, CA, Trenton, NJ, Modesto, CA, Temple, TX, Brigham City, UT, and San Antonio, TX, where their beloved daughter, Claudia, was born. They shared countless adventures together as Claude’s service with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. took them to Crystal City, Harlingen, Austin, Beaumont, and finally back to San Antonio in 1974.
Helen's compassionate spirit led her to become an active member of Windcrest United Methodist Church, where she dedicated nearly two decades of her life to volunteering. She extended her caring heart through the Fig Leaf with the Agape Ministry, providing assistance to those in need. Her passions were vast and diverse – from bridge playing to gardening, sewing to painting, and ceramics. She had a zest for life that radiated from her every smile and laugh.
Above all, Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her warm smile, infectious laughter, and unshakably cheerful demeanor brought light to the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her daughter, Claudia, and son-in-law, Gary Taylor, along with her grandchildren, Blake and Lindsay Taylor, Brittany and Lee Sawyer, great grandchildren, Luke and Logan Taylor, and Autumn and Savannah Sawyer, carry forward her love and spirit.
Helen peacefully passed away at the age of 99 on August 2nd, leaving behind a world forever touched by her presence. Her remarkable journey will be remembered with love and admiration by all who had the honor of knowing her.
A visitation to celebrate Helen's life will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, from 9 – 10 AM, with a Memorial Service from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM, and lunch immediately following at Sunset Funeral Home, located at 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218.
As we bid farewell to Helen, let us remember her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering joy. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory continue to shine brightly in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Helen – your light will forever guide us.
"Though you are gone, your spirit will forever live on."
