

Mary Louise McCombs age 88, of San Antonio, died peacefully on Monday, December 7, 2020. She was a first-grade teacher for 25 years in Tennessee for the Shelby County School District. Mary was married 50 years to Albert Gene McCombs, a Baptist pastor. She loved being a pastor’s wife. Gene was a pastor in School Creek, TX; Lueders, TX; at South Beckley Baptist Church in Dallas, TX; Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene, TX; the First Baptist Church of Duncanville, TX; and 2nd Baptist Church of Corpus Christi, TX. They moved to Germantown, TN where Gene became Director of Development for Mid-America Baptist Seminary. Mary remained very active in her church at Parkhill Baptist Church after moving to San Antonio following Gene’s death. She and her husband were two of the early Americans to travel on a tourist Visa to China in 1980. She and Gene traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Holy Land. She loved to cook for family and entertain for her friends at her San Antonio home.
Mary came from a large family of 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by 8 of her brothers and sisters; as well as her husband, Albert Gene McCombs.
She is survived by her son, Robert Terrell McCombs and wife Cindy; daughter, Paula Jean McCombs; 2 granddaughters, Jennifer Odom and Amy Cockreham; 3 great-grandchildren, Lachlan, Cian and Roan Cockreham; sister, JoNell Prindle; brother, W.D. Broadway; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
