I just learned about your loss. I am so sad. Mary Ellen was one of my favorite friends. What a tremendous loss. What a legacy of wonderful memories so many of us have of Mary Ellen. One memory brings on another and they just don't end.

Our prayers and thoughts are with the Ebert/McCready family in the loss of this beloved daughter, mother, wife,cousin. We are indeed blessed, that the Lord provides us the strength and courage needed at such times as this.

Each time my path crossed that of Mary Ellen's I felt blessed. The first time was when Allison and Karin were Brownies. It was wonderful working with her in Girl Scouts. Then from time to time I would see her at church. She brought a kind and caring spirit to each encounter. Her family and especially Allison are in my thoughts and prayers.

I grew up with Mary Ellen in the Sunday School classes at Travis Park Methodist Church. During our senior year our class went on a winter retreat. We all went on a mountain hike during the retreat at night and got lost and one of the boys hurt his ankle. Someone suggested that we pray. After the prayer we saw the lights to our campsite and the boy who hurt his ankle said that it didn't hurt anymore. We had a true mountaintop experience. We then all took turns praying. I remember very well the prayer that Mary Ellen prayed. The retreat cost each person $5. She thanked the Lord for giving us something far greater than the five dollars could ever buy. Mary Ellen was a wonderful person and influenced my life very much.

Mary Ellen has always been so gracious to me and to my family. Our first year back from Italy 2000 and she invited me to participate in her annual cookie exchange without even bringing cookies. She included our family in so many of her own family functions. We have been blessed by her in so many ways. Our hearts & prayers go out to all her family and friends.

When we were kids, Mary Ellen taught me how to have fun, which didn't always come naturally to me. When we were teens, she took me shopping to pick out clothes, which she was so good at doing we liked Scrivners the best. There were the countless hours at Blue Ridge stables mucking out stalls, just so we could be around horses May Dawn, a palamino Arabian mix was her favorite; band and Lee-ette practices; all the high school sporting events; season symphony seats with Annette, too. As college kids, we roomed together and shared our first taste of independence. As young adults, we did fun things together like pull taffy and make ceramics. Gary, after you two married and your children were born, you both shared your family with me. Once I moved to Houston, Mary Ellen and I had far less time together, but we always stayed in touch. We had so many plans for things we would do together when I moved back to San Antonio and we could visit more often. I will always regret that those new experiences didn't happen, but I'll always be grateful for the friendship we did share over the past 50 years and impact she had on my life. I'll miss her deeply.

We will always remember that Mary Ellen was a kind, caring christian woman. We will miss her a lot. When Art married Kathy, Mary Ellen welcomed not only Art into their family, but our entire family Mom, Dad, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, & numerous children. We'll also miss her smile, her energy, and her annual cookie exchanges. We have so many fond memories of her and we only knew her a short time. God bless all your family.

Mary Ellen has been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. Her loving friendship meant so much to us and we greive her passing. We will miss her humor and easy laugh, her warm hugs and her caring ways. We celebrate her life and memory but will miss her terribly.

Dear McCready Family We are so very sorry to hear of Mary Ellen's passing.Our hearts go out to your entire family. Please accept our heartfelt sympathy at the loss of your daugther,mother,wife and grandmother. We recently had occasion to read this passage: To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say... 
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay. 
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above. 
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight. 
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. 
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, 
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you." It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. 
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on. 
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan. 
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man." God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. 
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you. 
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight. 
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years 
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. 
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. 
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. 
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. 
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er. 
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; 
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. 
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too... 
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain, 
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain." 
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile, 
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, 
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go. 
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;

It has been a long time since I have seen any of the McCready family but my Mom, Sue Russell, always kept me up to date. I have fond memories of our time in San Antonio and of Mary Ellen. I still have a Christmas ornament that I made one year at your house. I will remember Mary Ellen every year as celebrate advent as she is the one who introduced our family to that tradition which I am now passing on to my own family. I am so sorry for your loss.
