Thank you for the many manifestations, large and small, of your strong and sparkling soul; the family gatherings at Christmas,the amazing game dinners, perrier, raw milk, buttermilk pie and the importance of exercise! Especial thanks for all the family history. You have blessed the lives of everyone you touched. I feel very fortunate to have seen you on Dec. 27. You looked so happy to be drawing with William. I'm so glad that your last Christmas was spent surrounded by your loved ones. I was 7 a dental patient! the first time I met Faye. Her fantastic mural of the Riverwallk with "squishy looking" clay bricks, and the water and the Alamo intrigued me. And I have never forgotten the mural. Faye will always be very special person: humane, brilliant, artistic and a true pioneer who didn't know the words "give up."

I was a patient of Dr. Montgomery for many years, so I was fortunate enough to get to know Faye also. She was such a lovely lady and had the most beautiful voice. Please accept my sincere sympathy. I will keep you in my prayers.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Faye. I am grateful to the family for keeping in touch with her Faye's mother's Jeanette Hicks friends in Jackson, MS. So many of us have prayed for Faye for years and now we know she is at "home" with her Mom, Dad, family and friends who have gone before her. It was a privilege meeting her a few months ago. She had such courage and fought the good fight. May God bless her husband, children, sisters, brothers and all her family. I know they will miss her dearly.

Dear Faye: I will never forget your telling me back in July, 2001 when I visited you at Sloan-Kettering, "I'm going to survive longer with this than anyone ever has." You might well have done so. But along the way, you showed everyone your strength and compassion and the qualities that made everyone devoted to you and your family. I know you obviously did not choose to be a role model, but you were for how to deal with a terrible terminal illness. Your friendship, as well as the friendship of your entire family, is one of the most prized experiences of my life as well as Carol's. We all love you and will not forget you. My dear Faye, oh how the memories of you, Bill, Ann, Mary, the Bombay Bicycle Club Jogging Association, University Presbyterian Church, the Cosmopolitan Club activities, Old Night in San Antonio, and oh so many more memories come flooding to the surface. Your paintings, your genealogies, the many unannounced breakfasts in your breakfast niche that you served me, our songs and celebrations at El Mirador, and oh so much more. And Faye, I guess what I will miss most about you will be your unconditional acceptance of me as a person, and this in spite of all my mistakes and shortcomings. You were a special gift to all of us who knew you, and your memory and these and many other memories will remain with me forever. I doubt if I will be going upward when it is time for me to join you, but I think I will have a lot of company going in the other direction, and we will talk about you often. Thanks for being you. I have so many good memories of Faye and Bill from my childhood on...funny parties with the joggers...all those "white elephant" gag gift exchanges...the trademark Montgomery wit and good cheer at the dentist's office..their example of what a big, close-knit family can be like. Faye was many things to us. To me she was friend, jogging buddy, and lover of flowers. Our jogging group annually drove to Shiner, Texas where we would jog the town and then have a few beers in the hospitality room of the brewery. Faye was not a big drinker, unlike her jogging buddies, but she was patient with us. We usually wrapped up the trip with a stop in Gonzales, TX where we bought barbeque at the Central Market and retired to the city park to picnic. Faye enjoyed those trips and the good food. When she was no longer able to take the trips and had a feeding tube, she still loved her flowers. She laughed the day that I brought a bouquet and put them in a Shiner beer pitcher. From then on we periodically enjoyed ?a Shiner full of flowers.? Then one day she presented me with a beautiful oil painting of flowers in a Shiner beer pitcher. Thank you, Faye. You live on in your flowers and paintings. We miss you and can?t wait to see you again.

Dear Montgomery & Hicks Families, I want to express my deepest sympathy to all of you and let you know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We all loved Faye's mother Jeanette so much and had been with you at St. Francis for Jeanette's beautiful service. Jeanette always spoke so lovingly about her family that we felt like we knew you very well.

I considered Faye's mother, Jeanette, one of my dearest friends. She was a great spiritual mentor and I miss her. Jeanette had asked us to pray for her daughter on many occasions, but it was only at Jeanette's funeral that I was able to meet Faye for the first time. I will be praying for you all, but I know that the foundation of faith bestowed on you by your loving mother will carry you through this and all difficult times.

We will miss her pleasant smile, her slight southern accent, her warm good humor, and her courage. We thought of Faye as a wonderful friend who was full of life and a joy to be around. We will miss her very much. We can still see her smiling face in our memories.
