Mary Patricia “Patty” Luff Moeller entered eternal rest on September 22, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 77. Born on October 23, 1947, in Glencoe, Minnesota, to Margabelle and Edward Luff, Patty lived a life defined by compassion, strength, and a deep devotion to others.
Patty found her calling as a Funeral Director, a vocation she embraced for more than 45 years. She spent most of her career at Porter Loring Mortuaries where she remained until her retirement in 2014. During those years she guided thousands of families with dignity and grace, helping them find comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments. She also mentored and trained many colleagues, making sure they understood and upheld the “Porter Loring Way.” Though known to be tough, she was equally known for her enormous heart, always ready to do anything for anyone.
Even after retiring, Patty could not step away from the work she loved. She continued serving families at Grimes Funeral Home in Bandera and Tres Hewell Mortuary in Seguin before returning part time to Porter Loring in 2020. There, she once again became a trusted presence, assisting on services and offering steady guidance.
Away from her profession, Patty had a spirit of adventure and a love for simple joys. She enjoyed hunting and had a lifelong affection for animals, especially her devoted dog, Raven. Faith and music were also important parts of her life. On Sundays when she wasn’t working, she could often be found at the organ bench, playing for congregations at Grace Lutheran Church in Bandera and Zion Lutheran Church in Helotes, sharing her gift of music in worship. Above all, her family was always close to her heart, and the love she carried for them was the most important part of her life.
Patty will be remembered as loyal, generous, and kindhearted, with a quick wit and a deep sense of responsibility to those she cared about. She expected the best from others because she always gave her best in return.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margabelle and Edward Luff; her husband, Herbert “Herbie” Henry Moeller; and her brothers, James E. Luff and Ronald C. “Beaver” Beltz.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Moeller Valdez and husband, Derek; her daughter, Diane Jones; her grandchildren, Robin and Waylon; her sisters, Gwen Kessler and husband, Bob, and Sandy Bargmann and husband, Glenn; along with extended family, colleagues, and many treasured friends.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78212.
A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary.
After the service, there will be a procession to Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for the committal service with the United States Air Force rendering military honors.
Friends and family are invited to a reception from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary.
