

Mary Hazel Prevott was a lifelong San Antonio resident who passed away on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022. She was born on July 29th, 1923, to Hazel Jagge Valdez and Antonio H. Valdez. She graduated from George W. Brackenridge High School in 1941. Between high school and marriage, she was employed as a purchasing agent at Kelly Air Force Base. She married Raymond Prevott, her husband of 65 years, in 1952. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Prevott; parents, Hazel Jagge Valdez, and Antonio Valdez; stepfather, Nereo F. Navarro; brother Antonio H. Valdez; sister Gloria H. Valdez; and son James A. Prevott. She is survived by her sons Raymond A. Prevott, and his wife, Sandra; David G. Prevott and his wife Sharon Gangol; Steven E. Prevott and his wife Rose; Christopher R. Prevott and his wife Josephine Ybarra; brother Joseph H. Valdez and his wife, Theresa; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She volunteered at St. James the Apostle school serving on the Parent-Teachers Conference, as well as various activities in support of the school, such as sewing costumes for school plays and acting as a chaperone for field trips from the late 1950’s to early 1980’s. In 1974, she became an early and active member of C.O.P.S., Communities Organized for Public Service. During this time, she advocated for fair and equitable distribution of city resources, such as better drainage in poorer neighborhoods. She worked at the Catholic Chancery in the office of Catholic Family and Children’s Services and as a teacher in the office of Natural Family Planning from January of 1974 to May of 1989. During her tenure at the chancery, she became active in the Pro-Life movement in San Antonio, continuing after she retired. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, reading, exploring her family history, traveling, photography, spending time with family and friends, and taking care of her grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Porter Loring Mortuary on Monday, December 19, 2022.
