Mary Alice left us a legacy. It wasn't just education, family, or faith. It was all those things entwined in the passion she held for life. This wonderful lady was planted by God himself as a role model for me at a time when I was about to give up on becoming an educator. She proved, through her lifestyle, that you could be a teacher, love your job, your family,and love your students, as well. It is hard to let her go. But I rest assured that her work as a teacher continues in the hearts of those who knew her. I am also sure her talents are being put to work now in a place so wonderful we cannot imagine. We will meet again.

To the Torres family, I am deeply sorry for the lost of your sister Mary. I grew up with your family when I was young. Your Dad was my coach at St. Stephens and the Elizondo's were my neighbors. My prayers are with you.

I am so privileged to have known Mary Alice through our association in Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma. I was always amazed at her depth of knowledge of the Chapter's history. Her descriptions of the Chapter's past officers truly imparted a sense of the history of this fine organization, and I am so proud to have known her. I can only imagine how dedicated and passionate she was in the classroom, and yet I see a reflection of her intense respect for learning in the comportment of her wonderful grandchildren, Robert and Lily. They are always listening and always ready to participate, and I can see Mary Alice in that willingness to fully take part in their education. 
Thank you, Lord, for the pleasure of knowing this treasure of an educator, and take her lovingly into your eternal abode. Thanks also to her family for sharing her with the rest of us. The world is a better place for her efforts.

Carlos and famiy,We are so very very sad to hear of your loss. I treasure the memories of getting to know her at Esparza as well as getting to know Connie. My heart hurts for her Mother and for each of you.She used her life well and all her colleagues loved and appreciated her. One of the best ways to judge a person is by the character of her children, and Mary Alice's children are two of the finest people you'll ever meet. Elissa and Julie, Mary Alice's daughters, are both utterly charming and fiercely intelligent women. It's amazing how much like their mother they've become. I've known them since we were all in middle school, and while they may not realize it, I've admired them ever since. Very few women I know can match their achievements, and yet their biggest success is in the commitment they've made to their family. Their love for each other is a testament to Mary Alice's love for them.

Our prayers go out to Mary Alice's family. I have fond memories of when she recommended me for the gifted program in first grade. Our Aunt Julie is a wonderful part of our family and we love her very much.

In an old English church yard there is this inscription: "Who plucked that rose," cried the gardender, as he walk through the garden. His fellow servant answered, "THE MASTER!" And the gardener held his peace. May God give you strength during your time of sorrow. Mary Alice tought both of my grandsons and I thank God for her being part of their lives.

Mary was always so welcoming to me and I will always remember her for treating me as part of the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I love you all dearly.

Mary Alice was a kind and generous person who contributed very much to the GT children at Esparza Elementary School. Her mission in life was to help youngsters become the best they could be.

Our hearts and our prayers go out to all of MaryAlice's family. She and Carlos have raised beautiful, wonderful girls. We are so blessed for Julie to be part of our family. MaryAlice touched so many young lives at Esparza. We'll never forget how much she believed in Tiffany to recommend her for the gifted program in first grade.

We were so saddened to hear of Mary Alice's passing and are keeping all of you in our prayers as you endure this difficult time. Mary Alice was such a wonderful lady and a mentor to me. I learned so much from her when I taught with her at Esparza. She inspired me to be a better person and teacher. Because of her, I pursued teaching in the Gifted and Talented Program at Northside. I will cherish the memories I have of spending time with her at school and of what I have learned from her. The Heavens have just inherited another angel from earth and I know she is having a great time catching up with Connie! We will always remember her sweet, giving spirit and the lessons she taught us about how to be a great teacher, friend and especially a parent! Take care of each other and remember that she is never far away..you can meet in your dreams whenever you like.

What a wonderful blessing I was given when Mary Alice became a friend, classmate, co-worker, and mentor of mine. She was an inspiration to all that knew her. Carlos, Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to assist you during Mary Alice's final days. During that time, the educator in her was apparent as she taught me grace in accepting God's will. We were saddened by the news that Nani had passed away. We were so glad to have been able to see her 2 1/2 years ago on a visit to Chicago. I picked her up from Downtown and brought her to my house for Brunch. We enjoyed her company so much. She brought pictures and stories with her. She appreciated the stories I told her about Uncle Jesse. She was such a wonderful and warm person who will be sorely missed. Carlos our prayers will be with you.

I'll always remember Nani in my prayers because of the very special person she was. Not only was she my cousin but she was also a friend who I have fond memories of all the fun we had and what a warm hearted person she was. I loved her very much and I am saddened by her passing and will always keep her dear to my heart. May god bless her family and heal their sorrow.

Mary Alice has touched so many lives and left a beautiful memory for all who knew her. We are blessed to have known her and consider her and the family special in our lives. She is home now and in total peace.

I will always remember Mary Alice's wonderful personality, her smile, her humor, and all her wonderful ways. She meant alot to my family, we all love her and she will be sorely missed.

Mary Alice was a friend, co-worker, and mentor to me, and a teacher to my two daughters. I learned so many things about teaching from Mary Alice but the greatest thing I learned was the same lesson that she taught my girls. The lesson was to always do your best and strive for excellence in all you do! Never give a half effort and always believe in yourself. Thank you Mary Alice, You will be missed!

Mary Alice was the third grade team leader and my mentor at Esparza Elementary, oh, so many years ago. Only my second year to teach, Mary Alice was a wonderful role model and an inspiration to me. I was so fortunate to have received her guidance. In a word, Mary Alice was joy. She had such a joyful spirit. She lovingly spoke of Carlos and her children. To her family I send my sincere condolences.

She was an outstanding role model for me when I began my teaching career at San Antonio College. I came to know her as a Betta member through our professional educators' organization. Although I never met Mary Alice, I knew how much she was loved by her sister and so many other NISD friends. I know she endured a lot of suffering, but may all of her family be thankful that she is now at peace.
