

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Dr. Donald Edwin Schwartz, Sr.; daughter Roberta Kernan, her husband Michael, and their children Patrick and Kelly of San Antonio; son, Dr. Jeffrey Schwartz of Greeley, CO; daughter, Dr. Ivy Schwartz and children Katherine, Nathan and Trent of San Antonio; son, Donald Schwartz, Jr. and wife Vikie of Boerne,. She is also survived by 3 sisters, Ethyle Block of Fort Wayne, IN, Kathryn Mayland of Richmond, VA and Janie Martin of Prescott City, AZ. She was preceded in death by her parents COL Clarence L. Strike and Ruth Strike.
Toddie was 16 years old when her father, a Post Signal Officer accompanied by his family, was assigned in January of 1941 to Schofield Army Post in Honolulu, HI. Following the December 7th attack on Pearl Harbor, she wrote a detailed first hand account of her personal experiences and events as they unfolded on a day that would forever be remembered by all Americans.
While a student at Ohio State University, she met her husband and married on April 6, 1947. Toddie placed her career plans on hold and her husband joined the Army as a Dental Officer; together they raised four children. Later, while he was stationed at BAMC, Toddie fulfilled a desire to attain her nursing degree.
In 1971, she graduated 1st in her class from Baptist School of Nursing. Among her many other achievements she also held a General Class Amateur Radio License Call Sign W5QVO.
She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid quilter. She was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church where she participated in the quilting group for many years and at one time served on the Church Council.
The family is grateful for the loving care and support provided by Odyssey Hospice.
A reception at Christ Lutheran Church will be held immediately after the cemetery service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to the Charities of one's choice.
