She was a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas and a devout member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a longtime member of the Altar Society and active with the visitation committee.
She graduated from the Providence School of Nursing in Waco, Texas as an R.N. She retired in 1972 from the Baptist Medical Center. Mary was an avid supporter of St. Peter and St. Joseph's Children's Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Alvarez and Martha Alonzo; sisters, and brother.
Mary is survived by her husband, George M. Scott; daughter, Katherine Scott Vara and husband, Rene; brother, Trine Alvarez; and sister, Hope Dugan.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
