

Mary June "Nan" Russell Wirthlin Sistrunk, 95, passed from the loving arms of her family into the loving embrace of God. Nan was born June 1, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ada Lillian Eve and James Waugh Russell.
She was raised by Ada and stepfather John Wirthlin, with brother, Don Wirthlin and deceased brothers, Leon "Bob" Wirthlin and Jack Wirthlin. Married to Master Sergeant Louis Sistrunk who preceded her in death, she is survived by her daughters, MaryLou Russell with former sons-in-law, Ken Ashe and Richard Diaz de Leon, and Neka Scarbrough-Jenkins and husband, Bruce Jenkins. Mary was known as "Nan", a nickname given to her by her grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Michele Rowe, Eve Ventrella, Annie Ashe, Joey Ashe, Evan Kotosky and Spenser Scarbrough; and great-grandchildren are Zo Ventrella, Ariel Di Peri, Luna and Olive Chiappini, Chloe Brinegar, Kyle, Chase and Lorelai Rowe.
Nan was born in the summer of the Roaring Twenties, appropriate for her life of joy, celebration, and her child-like sense of wonder all her life. She grew up in Salt Lake City and shared the dancing, musical and theatrical talents of her paternal family who traveled the country as the Seven Russells dance troupe. Nan was an excellent portrait artist and an active member of both Coppini Fine Arts and the Woman's Club of San Antonio. Her generosity to numerous charities and communities was matched by her own acts of service, time and support.
She taught Sunday School and was Youth Group Director at Northridge Park Baptist Church for 25 years.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 4, 2015 from 6-8pm at Porter Loring on 1101 McCullough, San Antonio, Texas.
The life of Nan Sistrunk will be remembered by family and friends on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 11:00 am at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Road, San Antonio, Texas.
Following the service, floral arrangements will be given to bring cheer to patients and others in need. Also suggested are donations to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, The Wildlife Rescue or Wounded Warriors in Nan Sistrunk's memory.
