Mary Garza Soto

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Mary Garza Soto, who entered into rest on June 7, 2026 at the age of 87. Born on October 18, 1938 in San Antonio,TX. Mary lived a life filled with love, laughter and cherished memories. She was a devoted member of St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church.

In her hands a garden bloomed, a meal became a memory and a game of Loteria turned into an occasion. She read with devotion, solved every word search with patience and gave all of herself to the people she loved.

Mary is preceded in death by her maternal mother, Dora Moreno; adoptive mother Matilde Garza; daughter, Mary Jane Capetillo; sisters, Mary Alice Martinez, Tillie Valdez and Julia Torres; brother, Joe Garza.

She is survived by her children, Julia (Joe) Villarreal, Rey (Cynthia) Soto, Carolyn (Fred) Sanchez, Roger Soto, Robert (Sylvia) Soto, Joann (Rudy) Benavidez and Cynthia (Tim) Owen; former husband, Reyes; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; siblings, Adolfo Galvan, Gloria Buckner, Margie Escalera and Manuel Moreno; also numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino, 226 Cupples Rd., San Antonio,TX 78237 with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.

The Procession will depart from the funeral home on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at 9:15 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of The Resurrection at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 4222 S.W. Loop 410, San Antonio,TX 78227. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Rd., San Antonio,TX 78226.
