Mary L. Willis, born September 15, 1946 and dearly departed us on Wednesday, November 14, 2012.After a hard and courageous battle with illness, Mary passed away peacefully at home, in Kirby, Texas, with her family by her side. Mary was born in Tuskegee, Alabama to father, Jim Calhoun and mother, Josephine Robinson. Mary, along with her sister, Martha was raised in Union Springs, Alabama.
After graduating high school, Mary joined union with Mr. Richard C. Willis, to whom she remained married to until his parting in 2005. During this union, Mary had four sons, Ronald "Ronnie" Willis, Greggory "Big Greg" Willis, Dennis "Pops" Willis, and Darrick "Sput" Willis. While being a fulltime Army wife and mother of four very active boys, Mary had the drive and tenacity to complete higher education and work fulltime. Mary worked for DECA (Govt Commissary Agency) on Fort Sam Houston for almost 29 years until her retirement, as a Supervisor, in 2012. Mary attended St. Stephen's Baptist Church where she was a member of the Greeting Ministry, a very faithful Sunday school member and deacon's wife. Mary truly loved the Lord and spent a great deal of her free time reading and studying his Word.
Mary also enjoyed reading, singing (only around the house), listening to music, cooking, going to church, working and spending quality time with her grandsons, Greggory "Lil Greg" Willis and Trevin Jayson Willis and lovely daughter-in-laws, Carmen Willis, wife of Greggory Willis; and Mary Willis wife of Ronald Willis.
Mary was a God-fearing woman that believed in serving the Lord and being a beacon of Light of God's glory and Love for all to see. Mary believed whole heartedly that 'Love is not what you say, but what you do!!!" (RCW) So, Mary always tried to show her Love to her family, church family, friends and coworkers. Despite being a quiet and private person, Mary was able to touch so many of our lives with her loving heart, positive attitude, giving nature, beautiful smile and sweet-sweet spirit.
Although Mary is no longer with us on Earth, the Love she shared with all of us will continue to live on in our hearts. As believers and followers of our Lord Jesus Christ, we can have assurance that we will see Mary (and all the other believers) again. The Bible tells us in Romans 8:28 that "All things work together for those that love God and are called according to his Will". So, although Mary is currently at rest, we know that God's perfect will is best. "By his stripes we are healed. Mom, now you are at rest in God's perfect PEACE. We love you and miss you very much, but we know one day.IN GOD'S PERFECT GLORY, WE'LL BE TOGETHER AGAIN! Mom this is not goodbye, but until we see you again.. Mom, you will continue to be a great mother, great role model, and source of inspiration and Love. Mary L. Willis, job well done!!
