As a toddler, Marylin and her mother Lillian lived with her grandparents Ida and Ottmar Wenzel on their farm in Selma, Texas, where she first learned the German language, while her father Anton served during WWII as an interpreter in the US Army in Germany. As the first grandchild, Marylin was surrounded by loving relatives. She had an innate curiosity about others and made friends easily because she engaged them with her kindness. She attended St. Gerard Catholic school and retained her strong faith throughout her life. Her career as an ophthalmology assistant lasted for over thirty years. She was loved by patients whom she always greeted with her positive energy and beautiful smile.
Always available to them, her grandchildren relied on their “M” and looked to her as their second mother. She frequently hosted weekend slumber parties for her seven grandchildren who will never forget those special moments with their M. She had a gift for making each grandchild feel special and they often came to her house to watch Spurs basketball games with her. M also loved spending time with her grandchildren at the family LMH Ranch in Tarpley, Texas. Her love and commitment to family was at the heart of all she did in her life.
Once retired, she enjoyed travelling with her sisters and good friend Pat Cavanaugh to Germany and Austria, and made numerous trips to almost every state. A church trip to Ireland and castle-touring in the wine country in Germany were also favorite destinations that Marylin enjoyed.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to each and every Memory Caregiver at Franklin Park Alamo Heights for their kind, loving and patient care for Marylin.
In honor of Marylin’s life, contributions may be made to Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases, the American Heart Association or St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church or a charity of their choice.
