Mason James Bowlin Cherry

Mason was a remarkable young man whose intelligence, drive, and heart touched everyone who knew him. He finish high school early and began earning college credit while still a teenager, entering Texas State University in San Marcos with sophomore standing. He maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA, earning a place on the Dean’s List year after year — a testament to a discipline and brilliance far beyond his years. At the time of his passing, Mason was working with Texas State University on cancer research, dedicating his talents to a cause that could one day save lives.

Beyond the classroom, Mason was a true competitor. He earned numerous medals and awards in bowling, chess, choir, and tennis, proving his sharp mind and steady hand in everything he did.

Mason had a wide range of passions outside of school. He loved working on cars, spending peaceful hours fishing, and sharpening his mind over a game of chess. He was an enthusiastic Pokémon fan, and he took real joy in mentoring others, always willing to share his knowledge and encourage those around him. But more than anything else in the world, Mason loved spending time with his son.

For all his achievements, those who knew Mason best will tell you his greatest gift was the way he made people feel. If you knew Mason, you knew you were his favorite person in the world. He had a way of making everyone around him feel seen, valued, and loved.

Mason is survived by his son, Rainer; his father, Bradley Cherry; his mother, Lisa Bowlin; his sisters, Valen, Serenity, and Ziva; his grandmothers, Darlene Rone and Darlene Bowlin; and a large and loving extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a cancer research fund in Mason’s memory, in honor of the work he was so passionate about.
