Born September 18, 1912, to Joe and Clara Yeager in Ringgold, Texas, she graduated from high school in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1928, after which she received a music degree from North Texas University in Denton, Texas.
While teaching music in Hebbronville, Texas, she met her future husband, Dr. Glenn T. Howard, who preceded her in death in 1998.
Maudyne and Glenn lived in Alice, Texas for most of their life together, where Dr. Howard practiced medicine for over 46 years. She was also preceded in death by a son, William Ede Howard, in 2006.
She is survived by a sister, Claryce Merrett and her husband, Olin of Bowie, Texas, and by her children, Glenn T. Howard, Jr. and wife, Joan of Spring Branch, Texas; Dr. Patrick Y. Howard of Austin, Texas and wife, Maria; and Paula Jo Lyday and husband, Dr. Victor Lyday of Canyon Lake, Texas; grandchildren: "Trey" Howard, Chad Howard, "P.D." Howard, Sarah Drawert, Bonnie Howard, Becky Howard, Victor Lyday, Glenn Lyday, Claire Wilkinson, Will Howard, Erin Howard, Elizabeth Lafferty, and Phillip Howard; eleven great-grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
An accomplished musician, who was versatile on the organ and piano, Maudyne played for the United Methodist Church of Alice, Texas, of which she was a member for 46 years and led the junior church choir. She also taught Sunday school and made sure her children went to church and knew the Bible.
She also excelled in china painting and was a member of numerous clubs in Alice, including the Alice Music Club, Beta Sigma Phi, the Library Board of Alice, and, as an accomplished bridge player, the Alice Bridge Club for most of her life.
The last few years of her life, due to her declining health, were but a shadow of the vitality and life that she displayed to all who knew her in earlier years.
She ceaselessly emphasized the need of education to all her children and was proud that they all graduated from college.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at The Forum Assisted Living and Vista Care Hospice for their care and kindness toward their mother.
