Maura Ciarrocchi

Maura (Barry) Ciarrocchi, aged 87, went to her heavenly reward on May 24th, 2016. Born in Dublin, Ireland, June 19, 1928, her parents were David Barry and Katherine (McCarthy) Barry. She lived in London from 1952-1963 where she had careers in dress designing and the travel industry. Widowed at age 35, she traveled to the United States on November 22, 1963, the day President Kennedy was assassinated. She and Jerome W. Ciarrocchi were married three weeks after they met in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. They moved to San Antonio, Texas seven months later in 1964, where their three children, Catherine, Regina and David were born and educated, beginning at St. Thomas Moore School, where, for 12 years, Maura organized professional dancing classes for children and a summer school program. When her children were in high school she was the principal's secretary at Incarnate Word High School before becoming the Home Economics teacher there. She then worked for 17 years as a staff writer for Today's Catholic, the newspaper of the San Antonio Archdiocese. She was also a published free-lance writer. Her family, her religion and writing defined Maura's life. She is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Deacon Jerome (Jerry) Ciarrocchi and three children, Catherine Ann of San Antonio, Regina Maria and her husband Randall William of Indianapolis, and David Jerome and his wife Madelane of San Antonio; four grandchildren, Tristan David and Julia Jaiden Ciarrocchi; Emily Regina and Claire Maria Boon; her brother Kevin Barry of Belfast, N. Ireland and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be on Sunday, May 29, 2016 from 6pm – 9pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7pm. At Sunset Funeral Home 1701 Austin Highway San Antonio, TX 78218. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 11:30AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church 4411 Moana Dr. San Antonio, TX 78218. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross cemetery.
