Maurie Growdon died peacefully with her family by her side the afternoon of Monday November 5th. Born on Christmas Day, 1915 in Matador, she was the next to youngest of eleven children of John and Annie Damron Miller. She married Col. Laurence Arlin Growdon of Clovis, New Mexico in 1943. A graduate of SMU in Dallas, Maurie was a teacher, dedicated to children throughout her life. Colonel Growdon was the commander of Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio at his death in 1954. Maurie, with their young son Charles, stayed on in San Antonio, teaching for more than thirty years, mostly at Baskin School. Maurie was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, Texas State Teachers Association, Military-Civilian Club, Battle of Flowers Association, Fiesta Commission and the San Antonio Symphony Society. Maurie is survived by her son Charles Marcia of Reno, Nevada, and her grandsons Scott Jill Zwagerman of Ankeny, Iowa, and Mark Martha of Bloomington, Indiana.
