

Max was born in Houston, TX to Carrie Estelle (Hunt) Williams and Jim Hamilton Williams Jr. on October 31, 1942. He attended East Central High School, but due to loss of accreditation, he transferred schools and in 1961 graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio, TX. On May 14, 1966, he married Janet Nelliene Heilig in San Antonio, TX. Max worked as a brick mason for his family and several other masonry companies over 40 years until his retirement. He was also a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers. Max served in the U.S. Navy MCB-128 Seabees C Company in Da Nang, Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Max is preceded in death by his parents, Carrie & Jim H. Williams Jr., brother, Mark Williams, and sister, Blanche (Williams) Bale & husband, Kenton Bale.
Max is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janet (Heilig) Williams, his loving children, David D. Williams and Jeanene Weidman (Fiancé), Vicki Williams and Brett Graves (Partner), Cassie (Williams) Krueger and husband Dennis, Jim H. Williams III and wife Elizabeth; brother Glenn Williams and wife Sylvia; his cherished grandchildren, Devon Krueger and Angela Vela (Fiancé), David Tyler Williams and wife Meagan, Colton Krueger and wife Taylor, Megan (Williams) Yaws and husband Zach, Jacob Williams, Tori Williams, Chase Graves, Cassidee Graves and Breann Lavers; treasured great-grandchildren, Lucas Williams, Kai Williams, Casey Yaws, Jaydon Lavers and many nieces and nephews.
In 2007, Max received the gift of bi-lateral lungs. His journey began with his own lungs working less than 20%. He took a chance in 2006 to get on the transplant list and began working with the team of doctors at University Health Transplant Clinic. He received his donor lungs in October of 2007. Following his transplant, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends doing the things he loved like fishing, hunting and traveling. His journey of more than 18 ½ years post-transplant was remarkable.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 28th from 6-8 pm at Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home
Burial services will be held Monday, June 29th at 10:30 am at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Park & Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to University Health Adult Health Fund – Transplant Center Fund.
